JerkishBehavior Hall Of Fame: Deion Sanders

The JerkishBehavior Hall Of Fame is dedicated to all those individuals who have shown a history of being great in their field of industry and have been known to exhibit JerkishBehavior on a regular basis which we as fans all love and the haters love to hate. So welcome to their coronation into the JerkishBehavior Hall Of Fame.

JerkishBehavior Hall Of Fame Inductee: Deion Sanders

JerkishBehavior Hall of Fame Inductee: Deion Sanders

The 4th inductee into the JerkishBehavior Hall of Fame is none other the greatest defensive back in NFL history, Deion “Primetime” Sanders. Deion Sanders changed how the position of defensive back was played and made it a glamorous position. Deion invented the term “shut down corner” where quarterbacks refused to throw to his side because he shut down his whole side of the field never mind the receiver in which he was covering. Quarterbacks feared Deion because he had hands like a receiver so if the ball was in this vicinity he was going to intercept it and he had the best makeup speed the league has ever seen so he had incredible range that he could cover any distance. Deion Sanders was also one of the fastest players to ever play in the league with 4.2 speed so if he intercepted the ball, it’s a safe bet that it’s a touchdown the other way and say hello to “Primetime”. If “Primetime” shows up that means Deion is high stepping into the endzone and doing a touchdown dance. Deion was so fast that he would intercept a pass and start high stepping at the 50 yard line and there still would be no one in the vicinity of him or start at the 20 while the offense could still tackle him but still no one came close, what audacity of this JERK (and I loved it). Deion Sanders created the “Primetime” persona in order to gain visibility for his extraordinary talents and to be rewarded for them at the db position just as if he was a quarterback. Deion more than accomplished that with being the highest paid defensive player in the league when he signed with the Dallas Cowboys for $35 million with a $13 million signing bonus. Deion Sanders won a Super Bowl with the San Francisco 49ers in 1994 but didn’t feel his contributions for the championship was appreciated so he signed with their arch rival in the Dallas Cowboys and won a Super Bowl with them the following year, who does that?
Deion Sanders was so good at his position that he didn’t attend a full training camp until his 7th year in the league (that’s unheard of) and that’s only because he wanted to play wide receiver and be the only full-time player to play both sides of the ball. Deion could do it all and especially when it came to special teams where he was one of the greatest punt and kick returners there is where his 19 defensive and return touchdowns are an NFL record.

Everybody wanted to be Deion and get interceptions while high stepping into the end zone whenever playing db either in flag, touch, or tackle football. However, a lot of people forget that Deion was a phenomenal multiple sport athlete. At Florida State, he played 3 sports in football (won bowl game and finished 2nd in the nation), baseball (team went to the college World Series), and track & field (team won conference championship). “Primetime” was in full effect even as a freshman at Florida State where Deion demanded that his own poster be sold at games, what a JERK!!! Deion Sanders also played professional baseball for two of the greatest franchises ever in the New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves. Deion Sanders was a good hitter and superb base stealer where he even finished 2nd in steals while playing in only 115 games (baseball season is 162 games). Deion Sanders excelled in playing both sports well while playing them at the same time and is possibly the last professional major two-sport athlete (think about it). Deion Sanders was a bad dude and one of the greatest collegiate and professional athletes of all time. Deion was one of the freshest cats in the game when it came to fashion and is infamous for the phenomenal suits that he wore. He also has this memorable quote in regards to his impeccable fashion sense in “You have to dress good in order to look good and if you look good you will feel good and if you feel good you’re going to play good.” So of course it’s a no-brainer that the 4th inductee into the JerkishBehavior Hall of Fame is Deion “Primetime” Sanders.

5 JerkishBehavior Moments

1. In a road game at Clemson in front of a hostile crowd while waiting to return a punt, Deion Sanders told the Clemson bench that “This one is going back” and then proceeded to return the kick 76 yards for a touchdown. Of course, “Primetime” struck a pose in the end zone, who does that?
2. Deion Sanders is the only athlete to ever hit a home run and score a touchdown in the same week. He also the only player to ever play in a Super Bowl and World Series, what a JERK!!!
3. In his 1st game back to play his former team in the Atlanta Falcons as a San Francisco 49er, Deion Sanders started talking trash to his best buddy wide receiver Andre Rison that led to a fight. Oh a couple plays later, Deion got an interception and returned 93 yards for a touchdown while staring at the Falcons sideline and high stepping his way into the end zone.
4. In ’92 while playing baseball for the Atlanta Braves, Deion Sanders hit .302 and led the NL with 14 triples in only 97 games, BANANAS.
5. Deion Sanders rode around training camp with the Dallas Cowboys in a custom made Mercedes-Benz golf cart.
