The JerkishBehavior Respect The Sabbath is paying our respect to the Sabbath of Sunday and here is where only a Bible verse and/or a mini-sermon from an aspiring pastor will be provided as the only new addition on the site during the weekend for those who couldn't make it to church for whatever reason.
Who Are You? Part 1 of 3
By Lemuel Kemp Jr.
In our society today as well as in the time when our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ walked on the earth this question of identity have always been around. If someone would ask you “Who are you”? How would you response. Or better How do you identify yourself ? In the book of Matthew the 16th chapter Jesus asked his disciples “Who does men say that I am?”
In this statement notice that he say men which is translated in the Greek to the word anthropos. Anthropos means man or mankind. So Jesus was asking Who does mankind or the society is saying that I am. When the disciples responded to Jesus they told Jesus that some say you are John the Baptist, some say you are Elias and others Jermias or one of the Prophets of old. Jesus then asked them a more powerful question. He asked them Who do you say I am? This is a very powerful question because many of us are shaped, cultivated, produced, and even educated thru our society and then take upon the beliefs of the society as apposed to having our lives shaped by the Word of God. Also the when Christ says Who do you say I am, he was speaking to the group not a particular person because once again the you in his question is plural in Greek. In other words he was saying who you all say I am. Peter speaks for the group and says, You are the Christ, Son of the living God. Peter was not convinced by what the society said about Jesus. One thing that was true was that the society had not known who he was. They couldn’t even agree with each other. Most importantly Peter walked with Jesus and by this time Peter saw Jesus perform many miracles. Peter had what many of us have today and that is a personal testimony. What ever you do, don’t allow the world to take away personal testimony. Don’t allow the world to tell you Who You Are? According to John 1:12 when you receive Christ, he then gives us power to become the son of God. I am not a slave, I am not the maid but I am a son of the most High God. The Question still remains who are you? Are you defined by society or by your Father, who is in heaven? Do you have the behavior of your Father or by society? Are you working on your Father’s business or on your Job. Do you communicate with your spiritual Father as you do your earthly Father?
Are you watching society movies or reading God’s Word ? Are you trying to entertain you friends and family or are you doing the Will of your father? Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Cor 5:17 (KJV) Have you become new or are you a reflection of how the world thinks, operate, rule, and live.
