JerkishBehavior Ode to: "Skip To My Lou" Rafer Alston

JerkishBehavior Ode to “Skip To My Lou” Rafer Alston

This is a JerkishBehavior Ode to playground legend “Skip To My Lou” also known as Rafer Alston. Rafer Alston earned his moniker because skipped whenever he dribbled down the court. I remember when I first heard of “Skip To My Lou” was back in high school, my boy said he had this tape of never before seen basketball moves but it was so next level that he wouldn't even let his best friend borrow it (He knew that he would probably never see the tape again) but I could come over and watch it. Needless to say, my whole basketball game changed after watching the infamous “Skip tape” where directly after we was trying to copy Skip's move and figure out how did he do that. The rewind button, slow motion and vcr got a workout that night. “Skip To My Lou” had an array of moves that were so next level at the time far as playground moves that he had everybody in my school and others across the country trying to pull them off. Skip to my lou caused a phenomenon and made streetball go mainstream. Skip had everyone on the playground trying to do And 1 moves and fundamentals went out the window because he was all about embarrassing cats on the courts now. “Skip To My Lou” made And 1 (the company that distributed 50,000 copies nationwide of the Skip tape) from a fledging shoe company into a household name that spawned more mixtapes, streetball tours, television shows, video games, and numerous streetball legends. Who can forget getting up early to go to buy And 1 shorts just to get the free mixtape of the newest steetball moves to practice and try to pull off on your boys before the tape was sold out. “Skip To My Lou” and the original Skip tape was the reason for the emergence of the streetball culture and And 1 owes a lot of its success to the futuristic moves of one Rafer Alston. Skip to My Lou became an instant celebrity and his playground legend continued grows.

Skip to My Lou is considered to be one of the greatest playground legends ever because he is the only player ever to make the successful transition from the playgrounds to the NBA. Rafer Alston didn’t just make it but has had a respectable and sustained career that is a testament to his hardwork and his ability to know how to play organized and playground basketball. Rafer Alston was known as a streetball legend but shown the NBA he was more than yet with his 3-point range, playmaking ability, and surprisingly good defense. Rafer Alston is now working on a 10-year NBA career with 10 points and 5 assists per game career average that is very impressive. Rafer Alston “Skip To My Lou” is the standard-bearer and blueprint (stay out of trouble, go to school, and work on all aspects of your game) for playground players trying to make the jump from the hardtop to the league. There has been hundreds of playground legends across the globe who have tried to make to the NBA and failed along with those who continue to try and look to one player as there inspiration. This JerkishBehavior Ode is to that player whose playground legend will never be forgotten is the chosen one known as “Skip To My Lou” Rafer Alston.

Mr Shut It Down's World: Race To 365...#9

Mr. Shut It Down's World: Race To 365...#9.

9. Air Jordan XII "Rising Sun"

Background: The Air Jordan XII "Rising Sun" is just a basic all white colorway of the Jordan shoe made infamous by Mike when he scored 38 points in the NBA Finals while having the flu, CLASSIC. The "Rising Sun" kicks caused a stir because the insoles of the shoe were deemed racist so they had to recalled them last minute in order to replace the insoles. So there are some "Rising Sun" kicks with the banned insoles and some with a basic all white insole.

Reason Why I Copped: The only all white shoes I wear are Air Forces so I figured I switch it up for the summer and rock these all white Jordans instead. I will be killing it in the summer rockin these joints with some linen pants, I'm ILL!!!

Date Copped: 11/20/09

9 down and 356 to go...Stay tuned until next time to see what makes the dime spot on the list?

JerkishBehavior Hall Of Fame: Larry Bird

JerkishBehavior Hall of Fame Inductee: Larry Bird

The newest inductee into the JerkishBehavior Hall of Fame is the baddest white boy to ever step foot on the hardwood and one of the greatest shooters along with basketball players of all time, none than other the great Larry Bird of the Boston Celtics. Larry Bird grew up in poverty while living in a small blue-collar town in Indiana. Larry Bird’s upbringing is what made him one of the hardest workers in the game and the quintessential gym rat. Larry Bird had one of the prettiest shooting strokes in the game and had an array of moves to get his shot off any time he wanted to. Larry Bird proved his status as best shooter in the game by winning an incredible three 3-point shooting contests in a row during All-Star weekend. However, Larry Bird’s under appreciated versatility, unbelievable instincts and one of the greatest clutch performers ever while having no problem talking trash and tell you all about it in process makes him one of the baddest cats to ever put on sneakers. Larry Bird was very quietly a triple-double machine throughout his career while finishing 5th all-time in the category. Larry Bird once had a triple-double at halftime and he was one steal away from accomplishing the Holy Grail of versatility in a quadruple double (This is when a players gets double digits totals in 4 different categories and only 4 players in NBA history have ever gotten one). Larry Bird could have easily obtained it but he put this ridiculous stat line of 30 pts, 12 rebs, 10 asts, and 9 steals in only THREE quarters and sat out the 4th quarter, BANANAS. Bird earned the nickname “Larry Legend” for his legendary trash talking and clutch performances. Like the one time where he went on an unbelievable scoring binge against the Atlanta Hawks that even the Hawks players on the bench was wilding out and cheering for him (which cause them to get a fine from their coach but said it was well worth it). There’s also the time where Bird’s teammate Kevin McHale scored a Boston Celtics franchise record 56 points and asked what he felt about it. Mchale said “It won’t last long because Larry will probably break it in a couple of games.” Well he was right because Larry Legend broke it while scoring 60 points a mere 9 days later, WOW!! How about the time in a tied game versus the Seattle Supersonics where he told Xavier McDaniel exactly where he was going to hit the game-winning shot then proceeded to hit the shot from that spot in McDaniel’s grill for the game. Larry Legend shined brightest not only when everything was on the line but also when it mattered most and that’s playoff time. Larry Legend was involved in one of the greatest one on one duels versus Dominique Wilkins in game 7 of the 1988 Eastern Conference semifinals where Dominique scored 47 points while Larry Legend scored only 33 points but 20 of those on 9-10 shooting came in the deciding 4th quarter, clutch my name is Larry. There’s also the infamous steal and assist versus the Detroit Pistons in game 5 of 1987 Eastern Conference Finals that lead them to victory and eventually the NBA Finals. Larry Legend led his team to five NBA Finals during his career and won 3 NBA championships including one against his career rival Magic Johnson. This is the stuff legends are made for and Larry Legend was exactly that by winning an unbelievably ridiculous 3 NBA MVP award in a row as the best player in the world during the 80’s. For such legendary feats and accomplishments under his belt, the newest inductee into the JerkishBehavior Hall of Fame is none other than Larry “Legend” Bird.

5 JerkishBehavior Moments

1. In regards to white players guarding him: Larry Bird said, “ Do you have a problem with your coach? Did your coach do this to you? Because this is disrespectful and you got no chance at guarding me. At least put a black player on me because at least he has a chance, hilarious. What a JERK!!!
2. In the locker room for 1986 All-Star 3-point contest, Larry Bird told all the contestants that he was winning it tonight and was just looking around to see who was going to finish second. Larry Bird proceeded to win the contest including taking the last shot of the finals and walking off holding #1 to the crowd before the shot even goes in, which it did. Oh by the way, he did all of this while never taking off his warm-up jacket, WOW, who does that?
3. During the 1986 NBA Finals, Larry Legend won his 3rd championship along with his 2nd NBA Finals MVP award while damn near averaged a triple-double with stats of 24 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 9.5 assists, LEGENDARY!!!
4. Larry Bird is the only person in NBA history to have a NBA MVP and NBA Coach of the Year award.
5. Larry Bird never declared but the NBA draft but the Boston Celtics still drafted him as a junior in college but he proceeded to play his senior year for Indiana State University.

JerkishBehavior Hall Of Fame: Ken Griffey Jr.

JerkishBehavior Hall of Fame Inductee: Ken Griffey Jr.

The newest inductee into the JerkishBehavior Hall of Fame is one of the coolest, smoothest and greatest baseball players ever in Ken Griffey Jr of the Seattle Mariners. Griffey was one of the most popular players of our generation. Ken Griffey Jr. was a home run hitting machine and a defensive wizard in centerfield where he was infamous for making over the shoulder, diving, and home run stealing catches. Griffey had everyone out in their backyard trying to emulate his spectacular over the shoulder catches. Ken Griffey Jr. has without question the prettiest swing ever in baseball that many observers call beautiful and effortless. Griffey was the coolest baseball player in the 90’s where everybody wore their hat backwards like him and wanted have a Griffey jersey and wear #24. Junior had some of the tightest non-basketball Nike sports shoe in the game and his kicks always on point with a strap, a #24 stitching, and one of the coolest logos in his trademark swing. He was always the leading vote getter for the All Star game and was always the main attraction during the home run derby (If Griffey wasn’t participating, I wasn’t interested in watching). Griffey won three home run derby’s including back-to-back titles in ’98-99. Ken Griffey is the 5th on the all-time home runs list with 621 and counting. Ken Griffey is considered one of the best ever to do it not only for his phenomenal home run prowess but for his defensive wizardry where he won 10 consecutive Gold Gloves in centerfield, BANANAS. Ken Griffey Jr. was so good during the 90’s that many historians felt that if it was for his injuries (usually because of his Gold Glove acrobats in centerfield) that he would be easily considered as the best baseball player of all time and probably the all time home run leader as well, WOW. Nobody went harder than Griffey in the outfield while making it look effortless or persevering and overcoming season-ending injuries which shows how much he loves the game to keep on getting back up after falling down. So just like a fly ball in center is an easy can of corn, the newest inductee into the JerkishBehavior Hall of Fame is Ken Griffey Jr.

5 JerkishBehavior Moments

1. During the ’95 1st round playoff series against the New York Yankees, Ken Griffey Jr. led the Mariners back from a 0-2 series deficit to winning 3 games in a row and scoring the series-winning run. Griffey’s game winning run saved baseball in Seattle which led a video game being named after him (“Ken Griffey Jr’s Winning Run” on Nintendo) and a new stadium to be built in Seattle which is now called Safeco Field and is nicknamed the “House that Griffey Built”, WOW, JERK!!!
2. Ken Griffey Jr. is an all-time Gold Glove winner that is a list of nine of the greatest defensive players from the last 50 years.
3. Ken Griffey Jr. is a member of baseball’s All-Century team.
4. Jackie Robinson’s (who broke baseball’s color barrier) number 42 is retired by all of baseball. Ken Griffey Jr. was the first player to ask the commissioner if he could wear 42 in honor Jackie Robinson Day and the commissioner agreed and encouraged others to the same in honor of Jackie Robinson.
5. In a tribute to Michael Jackson’s passing, Ken Griffey Jr wore a single white glove instead of his traditional two black gloves, who does that?

JerkishBehavior Hall Of Fame: Wayne Gretzky

JerkishBehavior Hall of Fame Inductee: Wayne Gretzky

The newest inductee into the JerkishBehavior Hall of Fame is the definition of greatness personified in his arena and is synonymous with the game of hockey and that’s none other than Wayne “The Great One” Gretzky. Hockey isn’t that big of a deal in the states but when you earn the nickname “The Great One” in any major sport, you’re kind of a big deal. Wayne Gretzky was and probably still is hockey. Wayne Gretzky is probably by far the best greatest player of all time in all major sports where no one will argue his position as the G.O.A.T. in his sport. I don’t know much hockey but numbers don’t lie so here is a run down of Wayne Gretzky’s greatness. Wayne Gretzky played majority of his career for the Edmonton Oilers (1979-88) and from the on-set he turned the NHL into Wayne’s world. Wayne Gretzky won the Hart Memorial Trophy (Most Valuable Player) as a rookie and went on to win an astonishing 8 in a row and 9 total, Who does that? He won 10 including 7 in a row Art Ross Trophy’s (Most points in a season), 5 Lady Byng Trophy’s for Sportmanship and Performance, and 2 Conn Symthe Trophy’s for playoff MVP. Wayne Gretzky won 4 Stanley Cup Trophy’s (World Championship) as well. So Wayne was not the best during the regular season but also during the playoffs when it mattered most and he was a great sportsman by being humble and never bragging about his greatness. Wayne Gretzky was so great that he broke most scoring records within by his 2nd year in the NHL. Usually when records get broken in sports, they don’t go unbroken for a while and even rarer that the record holder breaks his own record repeatedly but this was commonplace for the rare breed known as Wayne Gretzky. “The Great One” broke the assist record during his 2nd year in the NHL with 102 and then proceeded to break it 4 more times in consecutive years with 120, 125, 135, and 163 assists, WOW!!! Wayne Gretzky is only player in NHL history to score 200 points in a season and he accomplished this feat 4 times. “The Great One” became the first hockey player and Canadian to win Male Athlete of the Year as well as being named the 80’s Athlete of the Decade by the Associated Press. Wayne Gretzky was a Canadian national treasure and god. So when he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings in 1988, the Democratic Party House Leader demanded that the Canadian government block the trade but to no avail but BANANAS nevertheless. Even crazier, the Edmonton Oilers built a life-sized stature of Wayne Gretzky holding the Stanley Cup outside their arena. Wayne Gretzky was immortalized not only while still actively playing but playing for a different team altogether, UNFATHOMABLE. Wayne Gretzky played 8 seasons for the Kings then 3 seasons for the New York Rangers and retired in 1999. When it was all said and done, Wayne Greatzky owned 40 regular season records, 15 playoff records, and 6 all-star records for a mind-boggling 61 NHL records. Needless to say, the numbers show why Gretzky is by far and away no arguments from anyone the greatest hockey player of all time. The likes of his greatness will never be seen again, so without further ado the newest inductee into the JerkishBehavior Hall of Fame is Wayne “The Great One” Gretzky.

5 JerkishBehavior Moments

1. The moment Wayne Gretzky retired from the NHL in 1999, he was immediately inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and his #99 jersey was retired by every team in the National Hockey League, SPEECHLESS!!!

Mr Shut It Down's World: Race To 365...#8

Mr. Shut It World's: Race To 365...#8

The Race to 365 is a friendly competition between boys to see who can get to 365 pairs of shoes 1st and here's my personal trek to 365. So what pair made it to #7 on the list?

8. Nike Air Penny 1/2 Cent

Background: These kicks are the best fusions ever created which takes a piece of every Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway ever made and molds them into one shoe. This kick is a perfect shoe from all the elements used from the various Penny's from the air bubble, the Penny logo, the hologram of Lil' Penny on the bottom and back of shoe.

Reason Why I Copped: Penny Hardaway had the one of best signature shoe lines ever and he was one of my favorite players of all-time (behind MJ & Pippen). I begged my parents to get me the new Penny's when they first came out so to have them all in one shoe made these a no brainer plus you can never go wrong with ALL BLACK EVERYTHING!!!

Date Copped: 11/05/09

8 down and 357 to go...Stay tuned until next time to see what makes Peter Warrick on the list?

JerkishBehavior Music Review: Freeway "The Stimulus Package"

JerkishBehavior Music Review: Freeway "The Stimulus Package"

The Roc is in the building, well not really but Freeway is still standing with his latest independent album called "The Stimulus Package". "The Stimulus Package" sees Freeway giving the people what they want which is good music to get through these tough economic times and Freeway succeeds by keeping you entertained for the entire album. "Stimulus Package" was produced entirely by Jake-One who gives Freeway a very soulful and cohesive sonic backdrop. "She Makes Me Feel Alright" sees Freeway smooth it out which this ode to that special lady who makes you feel good versus "One Thing" which sees Freeway and Raekwon going & back forth talking about snitches & backstabbers. The best track on the album is "Money" where Freezer Freeway spits tales of the various ways that he has gotten money in his life and the beat is quite infectious. Another standout track is the creative "Stimulus Outro" where Philly Freezer spits about the fan mail he receives while also detailing certain points in his career so its an open letter to how much he appreciates his fans. Freeway isn't a punchline rapper but his specialty is his flow and being able to ride to any beat effortlessly which he does very well on "The Stimulus Package" which is a quality thematic album and good music to vibe/zone out to...Philly Freezer is still in the building!!!

Overall: 3.75 out 5 *****

JerkishBehavior Music Review: Clipse "TIl The Casket Drops"

"Til The Casket Drops" sees the return of the Kings Of Coke Rap in The Clipse for their long-awaited third album. The Clipse claim that this album is "Hip-Hop on Steriods" aka every song will have you juiced and like always the Clipse don't disappoint. From the beginnning to the end, this album is filled with unbelievable next-level production along with realest street tales on how the life of drugs, money, girls, and material things can affects one's psyche. The album begins with "Freedom" which see The Clipse contemplate how the rap/crack game has affected their family and the mistakes they have as they ask for freedom. The very next track is the instant head-nodder in back by "Popular Demand" which everyone loves and Malice (bald-head one) kills the last verse with lines such as "Money and hoes, it’s deeper than that/Fight the temptation, but it keep comin’ back/Money stack to the ceiling just as quick as it dispense/
Who knew those commas meant you could lose your common sense?/Before it’s too late, all I can tell ‘em is repent." "Kinda Like A Big Deal", "I'm Good" and "Showing Out" are all huge ego boost songs that make you feel good about your day and living the life of stunting on people. Which leads us to "Door Man" which is another dope boy & baller anthem which should be played at very high volumes with the windows down especially come summer time. "Champion" which is an anthem for life to live by for success and is a song that will be on repeat for a very long time and Pusha T (the one with braids) spits money to blow lyrics such as "Hold up that rose', pourin half the bottle out/If you from where I'm from, you know where I'm flowin out/Overcame the odds, so we overdue them cars/We done balled around the world, now we reaching for the stars." As the album ends, "Footsteps" is the cautionary tale track where The Clipse tell you why following in their footsteps might not be the way to go because it's not as sweet as it looks as they beg all who hear it to listen before choosing the streets. Overall, this album is a slight departure from the normal punchline heavy Clipse you expect but their rhymes still give you food for thought and the features from suspect rhymers such as Camron & Yo Gotti are on point like wait a sec, did Cam & Gotti come off as tight, yes they did. The dynamic duo plan on doing this "Til The Casket Drops" which is another banger of an album added to The Clipse resume with superb production, tracks that can be soundtracks to your life, and great introspective lyrics from the best duo in rap....Clipse have another hit, Barry Bonds!!!

Overall: **** out of 5
