NEW!!! JerkishBehavior Spotlight: Add-2
The JerkishBehavior Spotlight is where we highlight regular people who submit there very own JerkishBehavior, talents, or entrepreneurial endeavor to be showcased to the world. Hello World...because I AM READY FOR MY CLOSE-UP.
JerkishBehavior: Hello world. I'm here with a very talented up and coming rapper, so go ahead and introduce yourself to the world and let them know who you are? Where you're from? What you got going on right now?
Add-2: What up! I'm Add-2 the one man duo from Chicago. Just released a new project titled "Tale Of Two's City Vol.3: The Rise & Fall" we also just released two videos from the same project. Everything has been going really good right now so I'm just remaining focused and counting my blessings.
JerkishBehavior: Your rap name is Add-2 which is original, how did you come up with that name?
Add-2: My initials are A.D.D and I'm my parents 2nd child and my father's reasoning for giving all his children the initials A.D.D is because he wanted us to always 'add to' whatever we had and to constantly grow and never take anything away. I had wrote the name on a blank mix cd and it looked cool to me then I started thinking of words to rhyme off of it, then I thought of alias' based off it and finally I wrote it on my rhymebook and its been my name ever since. But before that I had a few realllly wack names.
JerkishBehavior: How long have you been rapping and who are some of your musical influences? What rapper(s) would you compare your style of rap to? Who do think are some of the hottest MC's in the game right now?
Add-2: I have been writing since I was in junior high and some of the first rappers I would listen to were Jay-Z, Nas, Bone Thugs, DMX, Pac, Biggie and basically whatever they played on Rap City. I hate to compare myself to other rappers but the type of music I make is similar to the vibe of Common or old Kanye I guess.
Some of the hottest emcee's in my opinion are Royce Da 5'9 and the entire Slaughterhouse crew, Blu, Eminem is still a beast, Kanye and even though I may not listen to his music like that I'd say Wayne is definitely still killing.
JerkishBehavior: What sets you apart and makes your music special from the million and one other rappers in the game? What's the main message you want listeners to get from your music?
Add-2: What seperates me from the other 2 billion rappers is that I'm just a regular guy and I'm afraid to be just that. Nowadays everybody is a kingpin, a murderer or a pimp but thats not everyone's life and it doesnt add up to me. There's so much ego in rap and with rappers that I just want to be the regular, down to earth, humble person that I am. I want to be the example that you can be successful at rap without glorifying about guns, drugs, money and sex and to show them you don't have to go the same path as others who ended up in the streets and that there are alternatives besides rap. Most of my friends have either been in jail, are or have been involved with drugs, I've had family members on drugs but I heeded their warnings and stayed focused and found a way out without stumbling on the same obstacles that slowed them down.
JerkishBehavior: What's the sickest line you ever spit and why?
Add-2: I dont know I never really think too much about my lines as far as which one was the best but I would like to say one of my favorite songs I wrote was H.E.R Story. It was sick to me because I used nothing but rappers names to help tell the story of hiphop in an abstract way and it still made perfect sense. Stuff like that is sick to me cause everybody can't do that.
JERKISHBEHAVIOR 20- SECOND TIMEOUT!!!
JerkishBehavior: Whats your favorite section on your JerkishBehavior.com?
Add-2: The 5 kings of Jerkish Behavior. MJ, Denzel and JayZ are some of the most influential people in the world and as young black male growing up in these are good role models as far as staying on top of our business and changing the world.
JerkishBehavior: Whats the most jerkish thing (in the theme of JerkishBehavior.com that is) you have ever done?
Add-2: I guess it would be how I came up in the industry. I don't have a manager or PR rep, every placement I've received has been thanks to hard work, networking and God's grace. I never asked anyone to put me on or wanted their approval to say I was dope, I just did what I know best to do and thats work. I know alot of artist who are dependent on others or new artist who come in with that belief "if I had... then I'd get my name out here" when honestly you hold more power than you know and the game is not as complicated as we map it out especially at this time with the internet. I would hate to put my fate in another man's hands and I refuse to ever be in that position where they determine how far or high I go.
Now back to our regularly scheduled programming....
JerkishBehavior: And you have had heavy placement on major hip-hop websites Hiphopdx.com far as your music, you being artist of the month and writing a blog for them. How has the helped your career and getting your music heard?
Add-2: It exposed me to market bigger than just chicago and that opportunity allowed people to hear my music but also my opinion on hip hop related issues. Still to this day people ask me about certain blogs I wrote such as The Sucka Emcee's blogs or the R. Kelly one or The Wackest Song EVER blog and it allowed me to bring up certain issues in hip hop culture. I wanted to create the dialogue on certain issues I couldn't put to a beat especially issues that needed more than just my voice. I'm eternally grateful to the people/staff at HHDX for that experience and taking a chance on a highly opinionated new artist. They were one of the first sites who backed me based on nothing but faith that I would become something great one day. Much appreciation to them.
JerkishBehavior: Alright fam we are at the conclusion of this interview, how can the world get a hold of some of your music and contact you? Is there anything else you would like the world to know about Add-2?
Add-2: Twitter.com/ADD2theMC or Myspace.com/add2 and make sure you check out the "Luxury" & "Starter Jacket" video and download the new mixtape!
